Fess Parker grew up in Texas, served in World War II, and later became TV's incredibly popular Davy Crockett and Daniel Boone. After his film and TV career, Parker became a successful businessman, hotel builder, and vintner. William R. Chemerka's authorized biography is a respectful tribute to an amazing man that features thoughtful recollections from Parker's family, friends, co-stars, and fans.

I've read many Hollywood biographies and gone, "Dang. Another one of them who's just one of those people I hope I never meet, as they're jerks." And then I read this book, and discover that Fess Parker was EXACTLY what he portrayed onscreen. (Clayton Moore was another.) And that was so nice to know. Chemerka had the pleasure of knowing Fess Parker for over two decades, thus was close to the man. He has a wonderful writing style that makes you wish you too had known him. You actually feel like when Parker portrayed Davy Crockett and Daniel Boone, he let the honesty and homespuness (If there is such a word.) of these men slip into his actual character for the rest of his life. I wish I'd had the pleasure of meeting him.Product details

wow! awesome information...Great guy, great actor....very in depth and worth the read....Great information about Davy Crockett and Daniel Boone....Some good information about Ed Ames (Mingo) too....
I was afforded the pleasure of meeting Mr. Parker during a visit to his Los Olivos Inn. He was not only incredibly handsome, he was a true gentleman. I was so impressed by his personality and charm. After he passed, I purchased this book to learn more about him and his life. There are parts that brought tears to my eyes. This book is well written. He was genuine - too bad more celebrities don't have character like this man.
If you are a Fess Parker fan, you HAVE to have this book. It talks about his life before, during, and after Davy Crockett....it includes endearing memories from friends and family....a must read.
I just finished this biography and enjoyed it very much. I would recommend it for anyone who loved Fess Parker, his work as an actor and as a businessman on California's Central Coast. It contains new stories and insights from a loving family and friends. It is an especially enjoyable read for those of us who grew up on the Central Coast of California!
Sadly, there were a number of grammatical errors that caused this reader to wonder if the publisher might not have cared enough to proof-read the final edition before marketing it. Perhaps a new edition might correct these errors.

This book does a wonderful job of telling us about the life of Fess Parker, telling us why he was such a great man and why he was a hero to many of as we grew up watching him as Davy Crockett and Daniel Boone.
My only faults with this book are the occasional typo or missing word. The author needed to invest in a good proof reader. If you got the version, the formatting, especially at the beginning of chapters is awful.
Being a long time fan of Fess Parker - since childhood with Davy Crockett and particularly Daniel Boone - I thoroughly enjoyed this biography . It was nice to discover that he was a pretty much all round , easy going gentleman . Old fashioned virtues of honesty , kindness , patience and loyalty I wish we saw more of today .
I was particularly touched that he took young Darby Hinton ( played Israel Boone) under his wing on and off the show as Darby had lost his own rather early.
And it was interesting to read about the businessman and winery he and his children built!
I would recommend this.
Incredible book. It was very detailed and revealing look into the life of a man that loved God, his family and his country. He displayed true moral fiber and believed in kindness and fairness to every man. He helped his friends, and did so much more charitable work and donations than was ever reported. It didn't matter if you were a stranger. This man always cared what every man had to say. He was my hero growing up. The world is a better pace for having him make his mark on several generations. Daniel Boone was a man, and so was Fess Parker. Read this book. It is very very good.
